Passenger services charges fully equalised from Jan 1

mavcom-klia1KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has announced that all passenger service charges (PSC) will be fully equalised and implemented at every airport in Malaysia.

From Jan 1 next year, the PSC rate for all international destinations from any Malaysian airport will be RM73. Currently, the PSC rate applicable at non-Asean international destinations from klia2 is RM50.

All other PSC rates will remain unchanged.

Tickets issued prior to Jan 1, 2018 are not subject to the new rate, regardless of the date of travel.

Mavcom said this change was due to the results of a 2017 review which took into account industry feedback.

“Aside from ensuring airport charges in Malaysia remain among the lowest in the region, we expect this move to allow the government to reallocate subsidies to more needful purposes,” Mavcom executive chairman Abdullah Ahmad said in a statement.

He added that Mavcom’s work on the PSC rates had consumers’ interests at heart, and was to enhance passenger experiences, promote fair competition, increase quality of service and increase Malaysia’s standing as a regional aviation hub.
