Malaysia slips one spot to 24th in doing business ranking

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has dropped to 24th position this year among 190 economies, from 23rd position last year in the World Bank Group’s ease of doing business ranking.

Despite the decline in ranking, Malaysia’s overall distance to frontier (DTF) improved by 0.96 to 78.43 this year from 77.47 last year.

The DTF score measures the distance of each economy to the frontier economy, which refers to the best performing country on each of the indicators across all countries involved since 2005.

According to the World Bank Group’s latest “Doing Business” report, Malaysia adopted reforms in the areas of getting credit, trading across borders and protecting minority investors.

Overall, the report ranks New Zealand as the most business friendly globally followed by Singapore, Denmark, Republic of Korea and Hong Kong SAR.

With Asean, Malaysia was ranked second after Singapore. In the Asian region, Malaysia ranked fifth, behind Singapore, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan.
