MIRI: People from 40 races and ethnicities in Miri celebrated Malaysia Day at the multiracial Plates Miri coffee shop here.
“We take this opportunity to wish all Malaysians a blessed Malaysia Day. May we continue to love and cherish one another in a true spirit of interracial solidarity,” said Plates Miri owner Molly Robert.
The Iban woman said that the true spirit of Miri and Sarawak is flourishing, as everyone has a place under the sun.
“As we celebrate Malaysia Day, let us not forget nor take for granted this priceless multiracial and multi-religious way of life in Sarawak and Malaysia,” she said.
Plates Miri is a multiracial coffee shop with various stalls selling Iban food, Kayan food, Chinese food and halal food.
A Muslim lady operates the Muslim stall and she sells mee jawa and Sarawak laksa.
Located next to it is a stall manned by a Dayak selling Chinese food like mee sua and kolok mee.
The eatery also serves Orang Ulu dishes like the delicious jungle-fern midin and other food prepared by a team of chefs from different races.
